Artist's Comments

George Beurling, A Canadian Spitfire Ace who would eventually end the war with over 32 Kills is shown here shooting down (or blowing up!) his first Kill.

Quoted from his book "Malta Spitfire"

As we came over the city of Calais five Focke-Wulfs dived to cut me out from the tail position---and they did. The first burst put cannon shells through both my wings. I did a quick flick and headed up into the sun, but the Huns had seen me and followed. They had more speed than I, as they had just pulled out of a dive and they went right past me in the glare, going up. I pulled up sharply and took a bead on the one in the middle. By then he must have been about 300 yards away. The shots my own ship had taken had put my port guns out of action and my starboard cannon was practically dangling out of the wing. That left me with nothing but my two starboard machine guns. Anyways, I let go the nearest thing to a burst that I could fire and must have been covered with diamonds, for the guy simply blew up with a hell of an explosion. I must have copped him in the oxygen bottles. The wings fell apart. The fuselage broke in two. The explosion must have killed the pilot, but the poor guy never had a chance to bale anyways.

Those letters on the plane texture are too sharp. But good work indeed :)

So there was this can in the stream. And it was all on its own. So I caught it in my camera and kept it forever.
